If I could rate 0 I would they don't do anything to help prevent bullying instead they try to take the students freedom of speech away by telling a student to take a post down or they will be suspended or won't graduate. The school needs to step up and get the bullying under control a student should not be afraid to go to school. They say "see something say something" but does anything ever get done about it nope

It's a pretty great school; I'm all for band and I love Mr. Bartz & Ms. Holso. Most teachers can't teach and assume that you know the lesson.

The bullying is out of control. Sitting back watching kids get destroyed by other kids, breaking their personal belongings, being belittled in the hallways, but the staff just turns their head, because if they didn't see it or hear it, it didn't happen. They tell students to keep their mouths shut about anything negative to do with the school. My junior year, a hall monitor was accused of having sexual relations with a student. And instead of the student getting to speak up, the school told her and everyone who knew to keep their mouths shut, because "Portage Northern doesn't need that kind of publicity"

Dont attend thus school.

If your child has a mental disorder or long term health problems, don't ever expect Northern to be on your side. They fail you for missing school, even if you're in the hospital. They leave kids in school, when there's a potential outbreak of a deadly virus in the school and tell everyone, "not to panic".

They say you lie about being in a hospital and give you make up time?

The teachers are great they're very nice and they work hard with the students. I don't too much care for the assistant principal and the reason why is because my daughter had a medical condition with her heart and severe asthma. I filled out in the in the beginning of the school year a health paper which is the green paper for the student's health history. I stated that my daughter has a medical condition. She missed some days but it wasn't dramatic days that she missed. She passed all her classes made honor roll of this year 2016-2017, but when the school year of 2017-2018 fall year to start up for students they made her to retake one of her class out of all the classes that she had passed of 2016-2017, the one class that she had to retake was due to her absences even though she passed that one retake class they still made her retake the class that she had already received a credit for 2016-2017 school year. I gave the school a medical paper from her doctor stating of her condition so then that's when they gave her the credit from the class that she had to retake. This school is very strict on attendance. So if your child has a medical condition you will have to provide something from your doctor every year of the school year. I really don't recommend the school if your child has a medical condition they just gave me a hard time and gave my daughter a hard time knowing that my daughter works very hard with her school work. I just feel like the class that she had to retake in a way shows me as a punishing her for the amount of days that she missed due to her health.

When a high school ends up on the new for bullying, I think you should re think where to send your child. You're better off sending them to military school. I'm so ashamed I graduated from this school.
